Oculus Quest 2 is an upgraded next-generation standalone virtual reality (VR) headset announced by Facebook in an Annual Connect Virtual Conference.
The new VR device is just a successor of the previous Oculus Quest. The device offers the next level of Virtual Reality experience to the users or we can easily say that it will give “highest resolution display ever” to users with a bonus of lesser weight than its predecessor.
With the news about the launch of the new Oculus Quest 2 VR headset facebook announces that they are going to discontinuing the PC-only VR headset Rift S that debuted in March last year.

Oculus Quest 2: Specs and Features
As we compare it with the previous device Oculus Quest, Oculus Quest 2 comes up with an upgraded design and features like never seen before in any of the VR headsets.
The device comes up with an improved design that has a soft cloth head strap over the earlier rubber strap, along with that company has also been optimized controller tracking to deliver four times longer Battery life duration to the users than what you’d get with the original Quest’s Touch controllers.
Specs and Features
Oculus Quest 2 is going to be featured with a display of 1,832 X 1,920 pixels resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. However, the current Oculus software supports only 72Hz but the company has planned to open up 90Hz support to all developers soon after the launch of the headset.
The device is going to be featured up with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 SoC with a 6 GB of Ram. The Oculus has additionally provided a built-in interpupillary distance (IPD) adjustment mechanism with three settings to let users adjust lens position as per their preference. Oculus Quest 2 weighs only 503 gms about 571 gms lighter than Quest.
The new headset, Facebook’s Oculus is discontinuing the PC VR headset option Rift S from 2021 and that would eventually be replaced with Quest 2. The company also claims that the users would continue to get PR VR gaming experience through the new headset via the Link USB Type-C cable that is priced at $79 (roughly Rs. 5,800). It is necessary for the users so that they can connect their Quest 2 headset with desktop.
“Our goal with the original Quest was to bring standalone VR to as many people as possible. We’re doubling down on that goal with Quest 2. It combines the performance gamers want with the flexibility people need, all at a price significantly lower than similarly featured headsets on the market. Quest 2 is more than just the next step in all-in-one VR,” the company said in a blog post.
Price and Sale
Oculus Quest 2 costs about $299 (nearly Rs. 22,000) which is about $100 (around Rs. 7,400) less than the original Quest that launched in September 2018 at $399 (roughly Rs. 29,400). The device comes up with the lowest variant of 64 GB while an option of 256 GB is also available to the users with a price tag of $399.
In terms of sales, pre-orders for the Quest 2 are already started in the US, UK, and Europe, with its shipments starting from October 13. The headset is also available for pre-orders in global markets through Amazon.
